Closet Organizing Is Not Just About Sorting Your Closet Contents

February 15th, 2011

There is a commonly held view that closet organizing means sorting your closet contents and while this is broadly true, closet organizing also means throwing out, or recycling, your old clothes that you no longer wear for whatever reason.

Maybe you still have a bunch of jeans that you wore a lot a few years ago and now you could hardly get one leg into them. Do you really imagine you will ever wear them again? Get rid of them. It probably stresses you out to look at them anyway. Old clothes that no longer fit us tend to make us miss the pass and that can be depressing. Throw old clothes out and tidy your closet.

Once you have had a good clear out then you can get down to sorting all your dresses, jeans and other items of clothing into related categories. Put them all together and then sub-sort them by color and this way you will easily find the things you are looking for and be able to see at a glance what goes with what.

Sorting and organizing your closet should be fun but you must be firm with yourself. Throw out old clothes you will no longer wear and you will have a clearer and tidier closet where you can find what you have much more easily.
